Glavas to Stand Trial in Zagreb
Croatia's Supreme Court President, Branko Hrvatin, has approved the request of the Chief State Prosecutor, Mladen Bajic, for General Branimir Glavas to stand trial for alleged war crimes in Zagreb and not in Osijek, the town where the crimes took place.
The decision is seen as key to preventing the tampering of justice with bribery or pressuring and even elimination of witnesses, which the prosecution considers would be harder to put into effect in the capital.
General Glavas is being indicted for what has become known at the "Sellotape case", in which ten civilians were murdered on the bank of Drava in Osijek during the Homeland War. Glavas is accused along with six other parties.
