Fasnik Carnival

Get ready for a macabre jamboree as the Fasnik Carnival hits Zagreb on Shrove Tuesday in the build up to lent. Croatians take this fasting fest seriously and the city is going to be awash with stuffed straw effigies of Fasnik, who was a naughty little devil and everything that goes belly up gets blamed on him. You'll see him get his come uppence by being either drowned, burnt or hung as revellers dance and parade around in fancy dress and Fasnik masks. Stuff yourself silly when it's all over on sauerkraut, roast beef, turkey or goose, washed dowm with lashings of Croat beer.
