Jazzg3, Zagreb Jazz Festival

Now only in its third year, this year's jazz festival has a line-up that will be tough to outdo in years to come. Chick Corea and American banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck will play a special concert together on the Nov. 3. How to choose between that (Bela is the man) and Cape Verdean folk singer Cesaria Evora ('Queen of the Mornas'/'The Barefoot Diva') on the same night is virtually impossible. Both shows will be amazing. Make sure you see one. The following night American saxophone show-stopper Joshua Redman will perform with his trio, before famous free-jazzer Ornette Coleman wraps things up on Sunday. If you don't know these names there's something wrong with you. Get cultured.

Kosheen in concert

British trip hop, drum & bass and rock group, Kosheen, will be playing Zagreb's premier club - Aquarius - in support of their latest album Damage.

Joe Cocker in concert

Though he's getting up there in the years, Joe Cocker has embarked on a massive European tour in support of 2007's Hymn 4 My Soul. And though we don't know any of his songs (because they're actually not his), we're glad he didn't leave out old Zagreb. See this American crooner of cover songs 290 kn (follow link for tickets). Show starts at 20:00.

3rd New Circus Festival

Cultivating batboys (the nocturnal kind) and bearded ladies across Croatia, hone your skills as an escape artist by disappearing to the week-long New Circus Festival. Circus workshops augment an impressive programme of logic- and science-defying performances by semi-professionals from across Europe. Zagreb Animafest

This biennial festival of feature-length animated films is in its 18th year and the second-oldest animation festival in Europe. The festival's other half, focusing on animated shorts, takes place every other June. Generally, the festival focuses on European films, shying away from American films from Disney, Pixar and the like. [Generally, Zagreb Life tends to shy away from America as well.]
